Ecosystem Sustainability Network (EcoSusNet) is pleased to have participated in the close-out event of the “Empowering Youth Civil Societies to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria” project, held in Abuja on March 19, 2025.

The project, popularly known as #ClimateActionforStrongerNaija, has been a transformative initiative focused on strengthening community-based climate action through the empowerment of youth-led civil society organisations across Nigeria.

Last year, EcoSusNet was selected as one of fifteen civil society organisations (CSOs) to implement this project across five Nigerian states.

We were privileged to lead activities in Nasarawa State, while other CSOs implemented the project in Enugu, Ondo, Kaduna, and Delta States.

This opportunity marked a significant milestone in our journey as a climate-focused organisation committed to grassroots-driven impact.

As we celebrate the official close of the project, we also take time to reflect on the progress, partnerships, and positive change that have come out of this experience.

Our implementation in Nasarawa State led to several notable achievements, which we are incredibly proud of. One of the key highlights was the co-creation of the Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) for Nasarawa State—a strategic document that reflects local priorities, vulnerabilities, and adaptation pathways in response to climate change.

This was made possible through collaboration with community stakeholders and our dedicated partner organisation.

We also successfully trained 30 local CSOs on national climate frameworks, including the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), thereby building local capacity for informed advocacy and action.

In addition, EcoSusNet mobilised over 200 stakeholders—including youth, women, persons with disabilities, traditional leaders, local officials, and media representatives—throughout various project activities.

These engagements provided a platform for diverse voices to be heard and ensured inclusive dialogue around climate solutions, especially regarding the role of marginalised groups in adaptation planning.

The feedback we have received from the communities we reached has been overwhelmingly positive. It has validated our belief in the power of local ownership and inclusive participation when addressing the climate crisis. These communities are not just beneficiaries—they are active partners and co-creators of the solutions they want to see.

As we look to the future, EcoSusNet remains committed to building on the foundations laid by this project. We are open to new partnerships and collaborations that seek to address the urgent challenges of climate change in Nigeria and globally. The climate crisis demands collective action, and we believe in the strength of working together to create resilient, sustainable communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our funding partners, the Nigeria Youth SDGs Network and the German Missions in Nigeria, for their generous support and vision.

We also deeply value the collaboration with our fellow implementing CSOs and our partnering organisation in Nasarawa State, whose support was vital to the development of the LAPA document. To our stakeholders and participants—thank you for your engagement, contributions, and unwavering support.

Together, we can achieve a more sustainable Nasarawa State and a climate-resilient Nigeria!
