EcoSusNet presents LAPA policy document to Nasarawa Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources

On 11th March 2025, the Ecosystem Sustainability Network (EcoSusNet) presented Nasarawa state’s Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) to the State’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Lafia.

The presentation was made by the project officer of EcoSusNet, Tashi Manasseh to the Honorable Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Isaac Danladi.

Presenting the LAPA document, Tashi Manasseh stated that the LAPA document is developed to address the peculiar impact of climate change in Nasarawa State through tailored, local strategies designed to enhance resilience and promote sustainable development.

He also mentioned that the LAPA document outlines a set of adaptation actions focused on the state priority sectors, including agriculture, water resources, infrastructure, health, and natural resources management.

Tashi added that the key objectives of the LAPA are to reduce the vulnerability of the Nasarawa local communities to climate risks, improve their adaptive capacities, and ensure long-term environmental sustainability.

Also speaking on the LAPA co-creation process, Mr. Aya’olo Baba, the Programme Assistant, appreciated the ministry for their contributions during the stakeholders’ review forum alongside other contacts of review with the Department of Climate Change in the ministry.

“On behalf of EcoSusNet, Building Blocks for Peace Foundations, We are Special Physically Challenged Care Foundation, and our funding partners Nigerian Youth SDGs and German Missions in Nigeria, we truly appreciate the ministry for extending the hands of partnership in the project. We also appreciate the inputs and observations you made during the stakeholders’ review of the LAPA document,” Aya’olo said.

In his response, the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Isaac Danladi, appreciated EcoSusNet, Nasarawa State LAPA co-creation team, and the funding partners of the project for their contributions to strengthening climate policy in the state.

The Honorable Commissioner added that the document will be very relevant to the ministry and the state at large.

“This Local Adaptation Plan of Action for Nasarawa State document will help to strengthen climate action in the state. As a ministry, we embrace the document; we regard it and will act accordingly,” said Hon. Isaac.

“I salute the vibrant youth of Nasarawa State that have contributed to the document,” the comminssioner added.

Tashi Manasseh also disclosed that six youth-led civil society organizations contributed to developing the LAPA document. They are: EcoSusNet, The Special Physically Challenged Care Foundation, Building Blocks for Peace Foundations, YALI Network Nasarawa State Chapter, Agama Center for Peace & Development, and Our Mission Human & Social Impact Initiative.

“The project is proudly supported and funded by Nigeria Youth SDGs and German Missions in Nigeria,” he concluded.
