EcoSusNet celebrates International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence 2024 in FGG College Yobe State Nigeria

Ecosystem and Sustainability Network (EcoSusNet) visited FGGC secondary school in Yobe State to raise awareness about sexual violence among secondary school students.

The event coincided with the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence on June 19th.

The advocacy team engaged the students in an interactive session, defining sexual violence, its forms, and its impact.

Students learned about consent, boundaries, and support services for survivors.

They went further to say that Sexual violence is never acceptable, and it’s essential to recognise the signs and speak out against it.

“We believe in your generation’s potential to create a culture of consent and respect. Remember, sexual violence is never the survivor’s fault. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence, there are resources available to help,” said Rejoice Musa, EcoSusNet’s gender and social inclusion officer.

“Let’s work together to build a safe and supportive environment. Teachers and school administrators pledged to create a safe and supportive environment for students,” she added.

The principal of FGGC Secondary School, Mr. Stephen Oka, and the teachers appreciated EcoSusNet and her partners for the efforts put in to organise the teaching session

“This visit has opened our eyes to the reality of sexual violence, and we’re committedtobeingpart of the solution,” He said.

During this session the advocacy team also thanked other partners for their fund support towards the project.

The visit aimed to equip students with knowledge and empower them to become change-makers in their communities.

By working together, we can eliminate sexual violence and create a safer future for all.
